Supreme Court Suspends ECP’s Decision on Reserved Seats Allocation
The Supreme Court of Pakistan halted the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to distribute the reserved seats among other political parties. This happened because ECP had earlier given these seats to other parties, which originally belonged to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PTI to Regain Seats
With the Supreme Court’s intervention, the PTI has higher chances to reclaim a significant number of seats. This includes:
- 23 seats in the Punjab Assembly
- 9 seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly
Reactions to the Decision
Shahbaz Khosa, Additional Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, also showed his support for the Supreme Court’s decision and said that it is according to the law and constitution. He criticized the previous behavior of ECP, showing their bias towards some parties.
PTI has not issued an official statement yet but it is assumed that PTI will be happy to see the resumption of their seats.
