Solar Panel Tax Rumors Debunked: Power Division Clarifies Misinformation
The Power Division has officially denied recent rumors about the imposition of a fixed tax on solar panels. In a statement, the division said that neither the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) nor the Power Division itself submitted any proposals for such tax.
Concerns Over Burden on Consumers and Impact on Solarization
This has come at a time when concerns are being raised that the consumers particularly low income household and small businesses would be burdened with an unecassary tax by the government on solar panel. By subsidizing solar panels, these groups already have to bear the cost of 1.90 rupees impact around 25-30 million customers.
Net Metering Policy 2017 make an effort to prevent energy exchange within the system but since the ratio of solarization is increasing day by day, it’s time to revise the pricing structure. Power Division is actively thinking about some alternatives and amendments because they don’t want the low-income class to bear additional financial burden due to them.
Provincial Leaders Advocate Against Solar Tax and for Public Support
The provincial ministers, Nasir Hussain Shah also oppose the solar panel tax and argued that such a measure will increase the financial burden over the poor in an era of rising inflation.
Local politicians are demanding the federal government to not apply this tax and instead bring a package that will assist the public in getting and buying solar panels.
